About

Founded in 2003 by Vishen Lakhiani, Mindvalley is the world's largest consumer platform for personal development and transformational education. Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur with a team drawn from more than 50 nationalities, Mindvalley reaches tens of millions of learners worldwide through its app, its "Quests" (cohort-based online programs of two to six weeks), live events, and its coach certification arm.

What began as a small meditation website grew into a platform that now spans mindfulness, health and fitness, relationships, leadership, entrepreneurship, and modern spirituality, taught by a rotating roster of bestselling authors and practitioners including Jim Kwik, Marisa Peer, Paul McKenna, and Vishen himself. Its stated long-term mission is to raise the consciousness of one billion people by 2038.

The coaching branch sits within this broader ecosystem. Mindvalley has certified more than 4,000 coaches through programs taught in cohorts by senior faculty, principally Ajit Nawalkha, co-founder of the related coaching education brand Evercoach.

The coach certification programs

Mindvalley offers distinct 16-week certification programs, each organised as four modules with weekly live sessions, practical assignments, community cohorts, and a final assessment.

Life Coaching Certification

The flagship Mindvalley Life Coaching Certification carries ICF CCE accreditation (42 units) and EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation. It prepares coaches to work with clients on vision, habit change, and life design, blending classical coaching skills with Mindvalley signature practices including the 6 Phase Meditation.

Business Coaching Certification

Carries ICF CCE accreditation (39 units) and EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation, aimed at coaches working with entrepreneurs and leaders. Draws on leadership psychology, founder dynamics, and business growth frameworks.

Health Coaching Certification

For coaches integrating nutrition, movement, and mindset work with clients pursuing physical and wellbeing transformation.

10X Fitness Coaching

A specialist track focused on strength and fitness coaching, delivered with Ronan Diego de Oliveira.

Mindvalley McKenna School of Hypnotherapy

A partnership with Paul McKenna offering hypnotherapy training grounded in research on suggestion and behaviour change. Accredited by IAPCP.

Methodology and philosophy

Mindvalley's coaching pedagogy is distinct from the purely evidence-based frameworks of traditional coach training. It layers standard coaching skills (listening, questioning, contracting, ethical practice) with a broader toolkit drawn from meditation, consciousness studies, NLP-adjacent techniques, and the platform's own signature models. Recurring ideas include:

  • The "Brules" concept — the view that many rules people live by are inherited rather than tested, and that naming them creates freedom to choose differently

  • The 6 Phase Meditation — a structured protocol combining gratitude, compassion, forgiveness, vision, perfect day, and blessing

  • An integrated model of wellbeing across twelve life areas (the Lifebook framework, which originated within Mindvalley and now operates as its own brand)

The emphasis is on experiential learning, visible transformation, and cohort community. Whether this suits a given coach depends heavily on whether they resonate with the broader Mindvalley worldview, which is unapologetically commercial, brand-driven, and rooted in contemporary personal development rather than academic psychology.

Accreditation

Mindvalley's Life and Business Coaching programs carry both ICF Continuing Coach Education (CCE) accreditation and EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation. The Life Coaching Certification earns 42 CCE units on completion; the Business Coaching Certification earns 39 CCE units (26 Core Competencies, 13 Resource Development). CCE accreditation is not a pathway to an initial ICF credential. These programs are designed for coaches who already hold an ICF credential (ACC, PCC, or MCC) and are logging continuing education hours for credential renewal; completing either program does not make graduates eligible to apply for ICF ACC or PCC credentials.

Graduates from the Life or Business Coaching Certification can also pursue the EMCC pathway. Both programs hold EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation, making graduates eligible to apply for the EMCC EIA (European Individual Accreditation) at Foundation level (50+ coaching hours, 1+ year of experience) or Practitioner level (100+ coaching hours, 3+ years of experience). The Holobody Coach program holds EMCC accreditation only. The McKenna School of Hypnotherapy holds IAPCP accreditation. The 10X Fitness track carries no external accreditation.

Where it sits in the coaching field

Mindvalley sits in a distinctive niche: consumer-scale in reach, cohort-based in delivery, and personality-driven in marketing. It is not a traditional academic or boutique coaching school; the scale and the media production value are the point. Even so, the core Life and Business Coaching programs carry ICF CCE accreditation and EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation, and the faculty roster includes widely respected practitioners. Against bodies like ICF or EMCC, Mindvalley is not a credentialing authority. It is a training provider whose core programs have earned ICF CCE recognition and EMCC program accreditation, while offering its own branded certification on top.

What this means for you

A coach with a Mindvalley certification has completed 16 weeks of cohort-based training with a specific methodological flavour: practical and commercial, oriented toward visible transformation. The Life Coaching Certification earns 42 ICF CCE units and holds EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation; the Business Coaching Certification earns 39 ICF CCE units and holds the same EMCC accreditation. These are continuing education credentials for coaches who already hold an ICF credential. They do not create a pathway to an initial ACC or PCC credential. Ask whether the coach holds a separate ICF credential from an ICF Level 1 or Level 2 accredited program; that is the stronger signal of independently assessed coaching competence. And ask the usual questions about niche, experience hours, and whether their approach fits yours.

Personal development is the unfinished project of modern education, and the premise behind Mindvalley is that the inner work is the work.

Questions about Mindvalley

Q.01

What does it mean if a coach is Mindvalley-certified?

It means they have completed a 16-week Mindvalley cohort certification in a specific track: Life, Business, Health, Fitness, or Hypnotherapy. The certification includes live sessions, practical assignments, and a final assessment. The Life Coaching track carries ICF CCE accreditation (42 units) and EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation; the Business Coaching track carries ICF CCE accreditation (39 units) and EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation. CCE accreditation is for coaches who already hold an ICF credential and are logging continuing education hours for renewal; it does not create a pathway to an initial ICF ACC or PCC credential. A Mindvalley life or business coach is a personal development professional, not a clinical practitioner: coaching is a forward-focused service distinct from psychotherapy, counselling, or clinical mental health care. A coach certified through these tracks is not trained to diagnose or treat clinical conditions. For clients dealing with clinical mental health issues, licensed professionals should be the first point of contact. A well-trained coach will tell you this themselves.

Q.02

Who founded Mindvalley?

Mindvalley was founded in 2003 by Vishen Lakhiani, a former Silicon Valley engineer who turned to meditation and personal development. He remains CEO and is the public face of the organisation. His books 'The Code of the Extraordinary Mind' and 'The Buddha and the Badass' articulate the company's core ideas.

Q.03

Is Mindvalley ICF-accredited?

Yes, but the type of accreditation matters. The Life Coaching Certification carries ICF CCE accreditation (42 units) and EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation; the Business Coaching Certification carries ICF CCE accreditation (39 units) and EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation. ICF CCE accreditation recognises programs for continuing education by coaches who already hold an ICF credential; it does not provide a pathway to an initial ICF credential. Completing the Mindvalley Life or Business Coaching certification does not make graduates eligible to apply for ICF ACC or PCC credentials. The McKenna Hypnotherapy track holds IAPCP accreditation. The 10X Fitness track carries no external accreditation.

Q.04

How does Mindvalley certification differ from ICF credentialing?

Two distinct things. Mindvalley issues its own completion certificate for each 16-week program. The ICF is an independent global body that awards ACC, PCC, and MCC credentials through its own application and assessment process. Mindvalley's Life Coaching Certification carries ICF CCE accreditation (42 units); the Business Coaching Certification carries 39 ICF CCE units. Both also hold EMCC Practitioner-level accreditation. The CCE units count toward renewal of an existing ICF credential, not toward earning one for the first time. Coaches who want to apply for an ICF ACC or PCC credential must complete a separate ICF Level 1 or Level 2 accredited program and meet ICF's coaching hours and assessment requirements independently.

Q.05

What is the Mindvalley coaching methodology?

It layers classical coaching skills such as listening, questioning, and contracting with a broader toolkit drawn from meditation, vision and goal work, and consciousness-focused frameworks. Signature elements include the 6 Phase Meditation, the Brules concept, and exposure to a rotating faculty of high-profile teachers like Paul McKenna, Marisa Peer, and Jim Kwik.

Q.06

Who teaches the Mindvalley coaching certifications?

Lead instruction comes from Vishen Lakhiani and Ajit Nawalkha, co-founder of the related coaching education brand Evercoach. Specialist certifications feature their own expert faculty, with Paul McKenna for hypnotherapy, Ronan Diego de Oliveira for 10X Fitness, and others for health and wellness tracks.

Q.07

How much does a Mindvalley coaching certification cost?

Program pricing varies by track. List prices typically sit in the low-to-mid four figures USD with frequent promotional pricing bringing them below that. Programs can be paid in full or in monthly installments, and typically include a refundable deposit plus a money-back guarantee within an initial window.

Q.08

Is Mindvalley the same as Evercoach and Lifebook?

No, but they are related. Evercoach is a coaching education brand co-founded by Ajit Nawalkha, closely affiliated with Mindvalley. Lifebook is a twelve-area life-design framework that originated within Mindvalley and now operates as its own brand. They share DNA and some faculty but have independent product lines.

Q.09

Is Mindvalley for spiritual or secular coaching?

Both, to an extent. The platform openly integrates meditation, consciousness, and modern spirituality alongside business, leadership, and health, reflecting Vishen's view that these domains should not be artificially separated. Coaches from the certification tracks vary widely in how much of that spiritual framing they carry into client work.

Q.10

Where is Mindvalley based?

Mindvalley's headquarters are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its team of more than 250 spans over 50 nationalities, and delivery is fully online globally, with live in-person events held at Mindvalley University and A-Fest in various cities each year.

Q.11

What should I ask a Mindvalley-trained coach before hiring them?

Ask which specific certification track they completed, since Life, Business, Health, Fitness, and Hypnotherapy each have different content and accreditation status. Ask whether they hold an ICF credential (ACC or PCC) from a separate ICF Level 1 or Level 2 accredited program, since Mindvalley's Life and Business certifications carry ICF CCE accreditation for credential renewal rather than a pathway to initial credentialling. Ask about post-certification client experience: how many clients, in what niche, and what outcomes. Mindvalley's methodology blends coaching skills with meditation and consciousness frameworks. Ask whether that style resonates with you before committing. Ask how they handle situations where a client's presenting issues go beyond the coaching scope: a professionally trained coach should have a clear referral practice for clinical or therapeutic needs and not attempt to address them within coaching.
