Phase 1 (Core Essentials, 78 hours) satisfies the training requirements for the ICF's Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential. Phase 2 (Professional Essentials, 72 hours) builds on Phase 1 and satisfies requirements for the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential. Both phases together provide the academic pathway through Coach U's ICF Level 1-accredited program.

Yes. Coach U holds ICF Level 1 Program Accreditation for its Core Essentials program, and its training pathway supports ACC and PCC credentialing. Coach U's programs were among the first in the world to receive ICF accreditation in any form, originally recognized as an Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) before the ICF updated its accreditation nomenclature in 2022.

All programs are delivered virtually via live Zoom sessions led by ICF-credentialed faculty (PCC or MCC level). Coach U has operated as a virtual-first school since its founding in 1992, making it one of the earliest distance-learning institutions in any professional field. Programs run as multi-day intensives with pre- and post-coursework completed within a structured timeframe.

The Core Essentials (Phase 1) program is structured around a six-day intensive (offered either as one continuous block or split across two three-day sessions) plus required pre- and post-coursework. Most students complete Phase 1 within a few months. Phase 2 (Professional Essentials) allows up to six months to complete its 72 hours of training.

No prior coaching experience is required for Phase 1 (Core Essentials). Phase 2 (Professional Essentials) requires either completion of Phase 1, a current ICF ACC credential, or the equivalent of a Level 1 accredited program from another school.

As of the most recent published pricing, each phase costs $6,395 USD, with an early-bird rate of $5,995 if paid at least 45 days in advance. Discounts are available for military personnel and for organizations enrolling multiple participants simultaneously. Tuition covers the live intensive, pre- and post-coursework, and required mentor coaching hours.

A Coach U-trained coach completed a curriculum aligned to the ICF's core competency framework, which covers active listening, powerful questioning, direct communication, and goal-setting, the foundational skills of professional coaching. If they completed Phase 2 and hold an ICF PCC credential, they also met supervised practice-hour requirements. This signals professional preparation; personal fit is a separate question.
